FRONT

Work same as back until Row 2 of Top Pat has been completed. Fasten off. Turn.
Shape Armholes: Skip 6(7-7-8) ch-1 spaces. Join yarn in next dc, ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch-1), skip next ch-1 space, dc in next dc, continue as for Row 2 to last 6(7-7-8) ch-1 spaces. Turn. Work in pat as established for 1 more row. Turn.
Right Strap: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch-1), skip next ch-1 space, (dc in next dc, skip next next ch-1 space, ch 1) 6 times, dc in last dc.
Work even in pat as established until strap measures 13(13-14-15)” or desired length. Fasten off.
Left Strap: Join yarn in 8th dc in from left edge and work to correspond to right strap.


FINISHING

Sew side seams. Top edging: Join yarn and sc across top edge, from strap to strap, working 1 sc in each dc and ch-1. Repeat across front neck edge.
Try on garment and position straps, adjusting length if necessary. Pin edges of straps to back then sew in place.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc, turn – 7 sc.
Row 3: Inc 1 st each end as in Row 2.

Row 4: Ch 5 (counts as 1 DTR), DTR in first sc, Vst in next sc, (skip 2 sc, Vst in next sc) twice, 2 DTR in last st, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first DTR, 2 sc in next DTR, sc in each DTR and ch of Vsts across to last 2 sts, 2 sc in DTR, sc in top of ch-5, turn.

Rep Rows 12 – 15 eleven times more. Fasten off.


FINISHING

Fringe: Cut two 22” long strands of yarn. Put strands tog and fold in half. With RS facing, using crochet hook, draw center of strands through ch at beg of shawl forming a loop. Pull ends of strands through loop. In this manner, make fringe in each sc row along side edges of shawl. Trim to even off if necessary.
Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired length of the fringe. Cut lower edge to free wrapped strands.
