Eid Al-Fitr
Hello, my name is >>>, I’m >>>>’s mom and I’m here today to tell you about a holiday we celebrate in our country, it’s called Eid al- Fitr. Can you say Eid?? Every year we celebrate Eid after the month of Ramadan. In this month, we fast, this means we stay the whole day without food or drink so that we know how the poor people feel. Also we fast to learn patience and to say no to food even if it is really yummy. We only break our fast in the evening. Ramadan is a holly month, in it we practice our good manners. We help each other, and we say lots of please and thank you. We do lots of prayers for good health and protection of our family. Ramadan starts with a crescent ( a baby moon that looks like this) and it ends with a crescent that looks like this.
Now let me tell you how we celebrate our holiday Eid. We wake up in the morning, we put on our new clothes. Children especially dress up with colorful clothes and we all go to the mosque. A mosque is a place like a church, or a temple. We gather there with our families, relatives, and friends to do prayers. We say Eid Mubarak, that means happy holiday in our language, we wish each other good year, and we sit for a good feast. We eat dates. Children receive money and goody bags, they also have henna on their hands. They are beautiful patterns of flowers, butterflies, leafs.
Here are some pictures of how we celebrate Eid. Here is a mosque, the place where we all meet. Here is a picture of a muslim family eating, here is a picture of the henna …………. had on their hands. It was still fresh and bright. Here is a picture of ………… with her Eid dress. Here is a picture of the carnival that we had for children. There were many games and there was a talent show too.
Now let me tell you a little bit about our country. We are from Saudia Arabia, we speak the Arabic language. The word hello in our language is Salam. Can you say Salam? Very good. Salam means peace. Also, I would like to show you our alphabet. This is a, ba, ta, tha, etc… the special thing about our language is that when we write we start from right to left. For example, let me show you how to write ……….. in Arabic.
I brought here with me some cards with your names on it. Who wants me to write his or her name? (kids raise their hands, or ……….. chooses)
Now do you have any questions? (the teacher might ask you some questions, and the children too)
Now, that you learned about our holiday, Eid, you learned how we celebrate it, and about the Arabic alphabet, ……… would like to share with you some goody bags. We put a healthy snack in it and a pencil that says, “Eid Mubarrak”, remember, it means happy holiday in Arabic.
Thank you boys and girls, we were very good audience. Thank you for listening. Eid Mubarrak!
