Abstract As the population of the UAE is getting more educated and more open to the other world, consumers now are becoming more interested to have more information about food labels and how they can use it. This research is about how to read food labels, and how it could help people to make healthier eating decisions, so by the end of my project I hope if I could help people have more confidence in understanding and being able to apply information on nutrition labels, to fit their healthy diets. I want to raise awareness about the importance of reading food labels, so people can develop critical thinking on labels clearness and credibility, and that will inspire people to have more responsible behaviors, for example, they will not buy products that not provide them with clear information, or seeking for particular information about the product, because people don't know what they're supposed to be reading on the food labels. "Food labels are pretty complex pieces of information, particularly the nutrition panel on the side of the food label." Dr. Russell L. Rothman, an assistant professor at the Center for Health Services Research at Vanderbilt University. (American Journal, 2006). On the other hand one thing to be remember is being able to read and understand the nutrition labels doesn't guarantee that a person will suddenly start eating right and will not have any disease, or their disease will go, but at least they can become aware of what nutrients they are getting from a certain food, that help them be healthier. For this reason I created a small and simple booklet about reading food labels that can help consumers making more accurate decision. In addition to the research there is a study undertaken to determine what consumers look for on the food label, and to know if the topic of reading food labels, is needed in the UAE. In addition, gathering information from consumers about things should be improved about the current food labels. The results of the study shown the consumers in the UAE are interested to know more about reading food labels, and they believe that improvements should be done to make the food labels clear to be understood. This whole report about reading food labels has three aims: 1) to create a reference source 2) To indicate whether there is a need for further researches in the UAE 3) To create new food label for the UAE
