Practice When reading the instructions, the examinee should have ample opportunity to practice using the computer, particularly the keyboard. Practice items should be avail¬able to answer so that the procedures for taking the test are completely clear. This prac¬tice should be self-paced, and the examinee should decide when to start the test. If the test is to be timed, the clock should not start until the first item appears. During the test the examinee should be able to review any of the instructions as many times as required. Appropriate safety barriers and nets should be in place to prevent the examinee from accidentally starting the test before he or she is ready, or leaving the testing pro¬gram prematurely. Figure 10.8 illustrates a safety barrier (pressing SHIFT-FIG) to pre¬vent accidental starting.
