AN alert has gone out over fears that certain shampoos on sale in Bahrain could cause cancer or damage to the nervous system.

Health Ministry Environmental Health head Abdulla Sitrawi said officials were still studying the reports which said health authorities in Saudi Arabia had detected cancer-causing compound called 1.4-dioxane in some of the most commonly used shampoos.
He said they would communicate with the Saudi food and drug authority to update themselves with the findings and then react appropriately.
If required, the ministry will send samples of the potentially-hazardous products abroad for tests and come to its own conclusions, said Mr Sitrawi.
"However, it is too early to say at the moment what could happen and what steps we intend taking," he said.
The eight products which authorities in Saudi Arabia have declared as potentially toxic are: Corpore Sano Baby Shampoo Baby shampoo is formulated so that it is less irritating to the eyes. Most contain sodium trideceth sulfate. Alternatively, baby shampoo may be formulated using other classes of surfactants, most notably non-ionics which are much milder than any charged anionics used. (made in Spain); Black Seed Shampoo and Conditioner for all hair types (South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa. ); LG Double Rich Anti-dandruff for greasy hair type (Korea); Himalaya Herbals Anti-dandruff shampoo for normal hair (India); ICare Shampoo, with nutritive nutritive /nu·tri·tive/ (noo´tri-tiv) nutritional.
