Possible Solutions for Stretch Marks

STRETCH MARKS are the problem of the century and also the problem of the majority of ladies. This is why we have decided to explore the options and solutions available out there in details for such a devastating problem which will definitely help guide many of us to improve our skin appearance and therefore feel a lot better about ourselves.

Right here and over the course of a few weeks we will tell you everything about the treatments available for stretch marks, which ones are suitable for your own stage, how efficient are they and what to expect undergoing any of those treatments. We will start from the bottom to the top meaning that we will begin with the milder treatments that give very soft results over a period of time and as we go deeper into the subject, the treatments are harsher on the skin and the results are more noticeable and vivid to the eye.

MOISTURIZERS AND VITAMIN CREAMS

Moisturizers and vitamin creams is one the most common treatments approached by the majority of women since they are widely available and are actually the cheapest means to tackle stretch marks.

The philosophy supporting the use of moisturizes and vitamin creams annotates that if you want to get rid of stretch marks, you will need to enhance your skin's elasticity and provide it with a restorative to repair damage already done. For that purpose, you will need to do two things;

FIRST: Prevent the stretch marks from growing by making the skin around the stretch marks more elastic. SECOND: Make the stretch marks fade and soften by restoring the damaged cells to a healthy state.

Results: Only if caught in the early stages, stretch marks can be minimized with over-the-counter moisturizing creams. Vitamin E oil, which assists in general skin healing and condition can reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Vitamin A is also a good emollient, but it's not as effective as its chemically created cousin, Tretinoin, or Retin-A, which attaches itself to a receptor on the skin cells to help exfoliate the skin and form healthy new cells.

Efficiency: Though these creams are effective in moisturizing the outer skin layer, they can't always penetrate deep into the dermis where stretch marks occur (and they can't completely change a pre-existing skin condition which is why they work best on stretch marks that are just forming.

Cost: those creams are usually not cheap but they are affordable to buy.

RETIN-A & AHA'S

Prescription creams containing Tretinoin, also called Retin-A, may help reduce the appearance of fresh stretch marks and they are the second line of defense against stretch marks. Retin-A is only available per prescription and should only be used under the supervision of a dermatologist.

Results: Retin-A cream works best on red-looking stretch marks and may give some subtle improvement in reducing the redness by causing blood vessels to constrict. Once the redness fades, and the stretch marks become white stretch marks, unfortunately, no topical lotion will eliminate the marks completely.

Efficiency: This type of treatment will not eliminate stretch marks completely, and it won't work on older marks that have already faded from red. Theoretically, stretch marks under a year old can possibly be treated by Retin-A provided that the stretch marks are still pink or reddish color. But the success rate is not impressive and the result is not guaranteed, and not all stretch marks start as pink or red. Many people have used Retin-A, but seen no results from it at all.

Cost: Retin- A prescription is rather expensive but you can always save up for it.

Warning: Retin-A Should not be used by pregnant or nursing (breast feeding) women on stomach/breast area, because it can be absorbed through skin and cause harm to the baby through placenta or breast milk. Ask your doctor about it. Retin-A may cause skin discoloration which will go away soon after stop of use.

Conclusions are; Stretch mark creams & moisturizers only help avoid stretch marks all in all and prevent new stretch marks from forming. While Retin-A may heal newly formed stretch marks to a certain extent.
