And of course, the many shades of it. Scarlet. Crimson. Carmine. Cerise. It’s the color of blood and rubies and fresh roses, and also of ripe cherries and tomatoes. It’s the color of the sky at sunrise and sundown. It signifies passion, anger, love, lust, danger, fire and so much more. Imagining colors and their significance in our life without red would be next to impossible. Memories flood my mind when I think of the color red. My very first fancy dress frock in grade 3, it was crimson and black, velvety, soft and had a dark red sash with a black net. I had won that competition and since that day, that frock has been my favorite. It doesn’t fit me anymore but I’ve still kept it. My favorite All Star Converse shoes I bought in grade 5 which got worn out within two years since I used to wear it all the time, be it for parties or sports or just when I used to go gallivanting! My very first Valentine’s Day in grade 7 when I was gifted my very first rose and a beautiful card with red hearts all over! I have no clues where that Valentine of mine is any longer, but I still remember the card and the red glitter and maroon ink with which he’d scrawled “Be My Valentine” inside the card… And how could I ever forget the lovely autumn when my mom and I went camping to Khajiyar, in northern India. Every evening we went and sat on the hillock by our hotel and used watch the sun go down. The scarlet color was a turn on as we exchanged views on everything, from politics to earth sciences to teenage issues and philosophical preaching! My present favorite is the Lee Cooper jacket my brother gifted me on my birthday, red in color with the outline design of a dragon in black thread. I am so obsessed with this jacket that I wear it ALL the while. When I’m sleeping, in school and while at play, and also in the afternoon and even in summers! It’s my favorite piece of clothing. All of this was just the materialistic connection I have with the color red. Otherwise, there is so much to associate with it. My temper for instance, I’m so irascible that I’m usually seeing red all the while! And also, I’m a die-hard romantic. I love roses and red carnations. I love paper-cut red colored hearts and have more than a million hanging from every corner of my room. Red. It also reminds me of one of the most horrible accidents I’ve ever been a close witness to. My grandmother’s accident. We were walking on the footpath and a drunk driver lost control of the wheel and rammed his car into my grandmother. She fainted and fell right next to an electricity pole. The car speeded away and the locals of that place came running to help me. I was only fifteen and unknown to the place we were in. Crimson blood was flowing out from my grandmother’s head and her knee. I though she was dead. Somebody called the emergency ambulance. They took her and about an hour later, I was allowed inside her hospital room. It stank of medicines and sterilized objects. My grandmother still looked robust and was in full senses then. There was no blood anywhere. Oh my, I was so glad! The sight of blood, in fact, even the thought of it makes me puke though I’ve grown more tolerant over time. Love. Red is the only color which would ever do justice to the word ‘love.’ The only word which can expression truth, loyalty, sacrifice and compromise and yet has a dark side which expresses the need and want of the humankind in the form of passion, lust, craving, hunger and desire. Red is frequently used as a symbol of guilt, sin and anger, often as connected with blood or ***. Often, things will be in red to scare. Another popular example of this is in the phrase "caught red-handed", meaning either caught in an act of crime or caught with the blood of murder still on one's hands. At one point, red was associated with prostitutes, or now, with brothels (red-light districts). Statistics have shown that red cars are more likely to be involved in accidents. The color red is associated with lust, passion, love, and beauty as well. The association with love and beauty is possibly related to the use of red roses as a love symbol. Both the Greeks and the Hebrews considered red a symbol of love, as well as sacrifice. Psychological research has shown that men find women who are wearing red more attractive. Red is also used as a symbol of courage and sacrifice, as in blood spilt in sacrifice or courage in the face of lethal danger. The phrase "red-blooded" describes someone who is audacious, robust, or virile. In English heraldry, red (called gules) denoted ardent affection or love, while crimson (blood-color) stood for boldness, enthusiasm, or impetuosity. Red catches people's attention, and is often used either in a negative way to indicate danger and emergency, or in a positive way in advertising to gain more viewers, or in nature, as a ripe fruit announces its readiness with its red color. Several studies have indicated that red carries the strongest reaction of all the colors, with the level of reaction decreasing gradually with orange, yellow, and white, respectively. Because of this, scientists have repeatedly recommended red for warning signals, labels, and signs. Because of these recommendations, red has seen widespread use as a danger signal, in stop signs, to warn people of extreme heat or flammability, and even to signal warnings in sports such as soccer. The port, or left, side of a sea-going vessel carries a red navigation light, to warn other vessels approaching from that side to change course to avoid a collision. In religion and metaphysics, red may represent fire and so may symbolize the presence of God. In the metaphysics of the "New Age Prophetess", Alice Bailey, in her system called the Seven Rays which classifies humans into seven different metaphysical psychological types, the "sixth ray" of "love-devotion" is represented by the color red. People who have this metaphysical psychological type are said to be "on the Red Ray". Psychics who claim to be able to observe the aura with their third eye report that a red aura is associated with a love of sports and/or physical exercise.مهم قرائة المقال واختيار اجزاء منه لا نخسه كامل . read colour Submitted: Dec 12, 2009 ...
