Materials needed:
Red Heart yarn - two colors (I used
Pretty n' Pink and Black)
H crochet hook
Gauge: 6 inch square
Special Stitch
Spike Double Crochet. (Sdc): According to the Harmony Guide to crocheting page 30. This stitch can be worked over 1 or more rows (usually sc rows) but for this pattern, it is worked over a dc row in the following way. Wrap yarn over hook once, insert hook in next st 1 row straight down, yo, draw lp through and up to height of current row, yo draw through two lps, yarn over draw though last two loops on hook.
Instructions:
With color A Ch 5, sl st in first chain to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (Counts as first dc now and throughout), 15 dc in ring. (Total 16 dc)


Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch. 2 dc in next dc, continue around, sl st in beginning ch 3.
Rnd 3: Sl st to space between next 2 sets of 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in space, *ch 1, sk 2 dc, dc between next 2 stitches, ch 1 sk 2 dc, 3 dc between next 2 stitches, ch 1, skip 2 dc, dc between next 2 stitches, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc between next 2 stitches*. Repeat 3 more times. Slip stitch in beginning ch 3.
Rnd 4: Join Color B in any corner. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. *Skip next dc, dc in next 2 dc, dc in ch space, dc in dc, dc in ch space, dc in next dc. Sdc, dc in next dc, dc in ch space, dc in dc, dc in ch space, dc in next 2 dc, skip next dc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch 2 space*. Repeat 3 more times. Slip stitch in beginning ch 3.
Rnd 5: Sl st to corner, ch 2, 2hdc in corner, *hdc in each dc, hdc in each dc across, 3 hdc in corner*. Sl st in beginning ch 2.
Finish off.
