The Arabic language: is a Semitic language with many varieties that diverge widely from one another—both from country to country and within a single country. A distinction is to be made between Classical/Standard Arabic (often called Modern Standard Arabic or MSA) and these "colloquial" variants. In sociolinguistic terms, Arabic in its native environment typically occurs in a "diglossic" situation, meaning that native speakers learn and use two substantially different language forms in different aspects of their lives. In the case of Arabic, the regionally prevalent variety is learned as a speaker's mother tongue and is used for nearly all everyday speaking situations throughout life, also including some films and plays, and (rarely) in some literature. These varieties (or dialects) are called العامية (al-)`āmmiyya (colloquial).
Colloquial and formal Arabic certainly do overlap; as a matter of fact it is very difficult to find a situation where one type is used exclusively. For example, MSA is used in formal speeches or interviews. However, just as soon as the speaker diverts away from his well-prepared speech in order to add a comment or respond to a question, the rate of colloquial usage in this speech increases dramatically. How much MSA versus colloquial is used depends on the speaker, the topic, and the situation - amongst other factors. At the other end of the spectrum, public education, as well as exposure to mass media, has introduced MSA elements amongst the least educated so it would be equally difficult to find an Arab speaker whose speech is totally unaffected by MSA.
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or al-fuSHaa is a direct descendant of Classical
Arabic and is now the language of elevated discourse or correspondence, contemporary literature, and the mass media (whether newspaper, radio, television, or
the internet). MSA is a formal, mainly written language that is not used for daily-life
Communications. There are no native speakers of Modern Standard Arabic, but the
vast majority of the educated in the Arab world learn MSA through formal schooling.
Although Arabs not educated formally cannot produce MSA, many can comprehend it
because of the considerable overlap between the different varieties of Arabic. Modern Standard Arabic remains largely uniform throughout the Arab world.
Colloquial Arabic, or caammiyya, refers to the regional dialects used in everyday
discourse and popular culture media (music, movies, etc.). There are numerous
dialects in the Arab world that vary along geographical, socio-economic, and religious
lines. Arabs from one region can generally understand dialects from other regions,
depending on proximity, exposure to other Arab dialects, education and command of
MSA. In general, there are four major dialect groups in the Saudi Arabia today:
1_Najdi dialect
2_Hejaze dialect
The differences between MSA and the colloquial dialects of Arabic are deeper than
the differences between formal speech and slang in English. Formal and colloquial
Arabic have different phonology, grammar, and vocabulary. Each dialect relates to the
Formal in different ways. Arabs from various regions of the Arab world may claim
that their dialect is the closest to classical Arabic (fuSHa at-turaath) because each
group is proud of their language. In fact, understanding classical Arabic or MSA alone
will not make you a proficient speaker in any dialect. At the same time, MSA is a
lingua franca that most Arabs will understand. It will be useful for more formal tasks
(such as reading a newspaper or listening to a news broadcast) throughout the Arab
world.

Arabic and English are two completely different languages that come from different linguistic families with different grammatical, lexical and phonetic features.
