Lunar and Solar Eclipse

To many people back in ancient times, lunar and solar eclipses were bad omens, which only meant that catastrophes would take place at their occurrence. For protection from such “evil” phenomena, those people would make deafening noises to scare those “things” which were going to devour the Sun and the Moon. To produce such loud sounds, a man, for instance, would beat on a drum or blow into a horn, a girl would be hitting on a tambourine, or another shooting a firearm into the air to rescue the eclipsed planet.
Other ancient cultures would explain the phenomenon of
a lunar or solar eclipse by claiming that the Sun or the Moon is immersed in a flood coming from hell. Subsequently, such belief called for making loud noises all over the lands begging for mercy and driving the floods that caused all those calamities away.
