actually reading is NOT the key to improve your english skills
the key is LISTENING
and every one knew that
now tell me how could u speak arabic ? by reading O.o?
NO ! by listening
like little kids when thay listen to thier parents they start talking simple words like .. water,dady,mum ..etc
after that they grow up and enter the school to learn how to read and write
let say u r correct about what u said, if there is a girl want to learn and she's a biggener
will u say to her read ? that impossoble she will read wrong she must to listen first to be ready
to read
so, the important skill is listening
if u listen u will be able 2 speak and read
and if u read u will be able to write

but to be honest with you, I did not totally agree with you
Of course listening is an important skills to improve your language, but in the same time without reading you will not build and enhance your vocabulary which is a very important factor to communicate with others
If you want to rich your bank of vocabularies, you need to read different books from different levels and that will enhance your ability to make the combination of words and the word order and the structure in a proper form
After that by practicing the pronunciation skills to the words, you will gain both the perfectibility and proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and communication skills
