Headband & Bag
Skill level: Beginner Size:Headband: 2 1/2 inches wide x 21-inch circumference
Bag: 11 x 13 inches
Materials:
- For Headband: Bulky (chunky) weight yarn, 3 oz (95 yds, 85g) off-white
- For Bag: Bulky (chunky) yarn, 10 oz (300 yds, 280g) off-white Note: Our photographed Headband & Bag were made with Lion Brand, Wool-Ease Chunky, Fisherman #099.
- Size 10 (6mm) knitting needles or size required for gauge
- Stitch markers
- Cable needle
- Tapestry needle
In garter stitch (knit every row):
12 sts = 4 inches
24 rows = 4 inches
Pattern Stitch
Cable 4 Back (C4B):
Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K2, K2 from cable needle -- C4B made.
Cable Pattern
Note: For key to stitch symbols on chart, see below.
Cable Back Pattern:Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: C4B (see Pattern Stitch).
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl.
Instructions
Headband
Cast on 10 sts.
Row 1 (right side):
K3, place marker, work Row 1 of Pattern, place marker, K3.
Note: Move markers as you come to them.
Row 2:
K3, work Row 2 of Pattern, K3.
Rows 3 through 6:
Continuing in pattern as established work Rows 3 through 6 of Cable Back Pattern between markers and stitches on each side of cable in garter st (knit every row).
Rep Rows 1 through 6 until piece measures about 21 inches from cast-on edge, ending by working a Row 6.
Bind off.
Sew ends of headband together.
Bag
Side (make 2)
cast on 30 sts.
Row 1 (right side):
K4, * place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Back Pattern, place marker, K5; rep from * once more; place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Back Pattern, K4.
Row 2:
K4; * work Row 2 of Cable Back Pattern, K5; rep from * once more; work Row 2 of Cable Back Pattern, K4.
Rows 3 through 6:
Continuing in pattern as established work Rows 3 through 6 of Cable Back Pattern between markers and stitches on each side of cable in garter st (knit every row).
Rep Rows 1 through 6 five more times.
Work Rows 1 through 5 once.
Knit 4 rows.
Bind off.
Strap (make 1)
Note: Strap forms bottom and side inset of bag.
Cast on 10 sts.
Work same as headband until piece measures about 42 inches, or desired length, ending by working a Row 6.
Bind off.
Finishing
Step 1:
Sew ends of strap together.
Step 2:
Referring to photo, sew strap to sides and bottom of each side piece to form handbag.
