Apologizing
Usually, you apologize if you have violated a social rule or have done something that hurts or inconveniences another person.
هذة المقدمة اعجبتني لذلك وضعتها كما هي ....
والان ما هي صيغة العتذار وكيف نقولها ولمن .....
The form
ان الأ عتذار يعتمد تماما على علاقتنا بالأشخاص (formality ) , والحالة او اوضع ( situation ) , والأهم هو مدى فداحة الخطأ ...!
فلو (دعست ) قدم صديقتك بالخطأ , فلن تقدمي نفس الإعتذار ما لو كسرت شباك جارك كمثال .. نعم هناك فرق كبير !
إذن يمكننا ان نقسم طرق أو طبيعة الإعتذار وهي كاالتالي :
There are five possible parts to an apology:
1. Formal expression of regret. This may be explicit as in “I’m sorry “or implied as in “I didn’t mean to.”
2. explanation ( excuse ) , which shows way the mistake occurred
3. offer to remedy the situation , if some damage has been done , or a remedy is possible
4. Assurance that the mistake will not be repeated.
5. Admission of guilt, which shows that the person apologizing accepts the blame. كمثال على ما قد سبق ذكره من احوال الإعتذار هذه المحادثات البسيطه والتي تحوي جميع الاحوال السابقه :
A: I’m sorry I was late to class, Dr Ahmad, but I overslept.
B: well, it is ok this time, but you know it’s disturbing for the rest of class.
A: yes, I know, you are right. I wont late it happens again.
A: oh, sorry. I didn’t know you were sitting here let me move my stuff to another table.
B: no, it’s ok I can sit over here just as easily.

When to apologize
هناك العديد من الحالات والمواقف التي تتطلب العتذار وجميعها تحوي شيءا مشتركا الا وهو : حدوث شيئ غير مرغوب به او حدوث شيئ غير مريح .
و الأ مريكين يعتذرون في الغالب في هذه الحالات :
1. Hurting someone’s feeling or causing a misunderstanding.
2. Being late or missing a meeting, class, appointment.
3. Interrupting a conversation or meeting.
4. being impolite
5. Taking someone else’s property by mistake or damaging it.
6. telling a secret accidentally ( letting the cat out of the bag )
7. calling someone early in the morning or late at night
8. dialing a wrong number on a telephone
9. Invading someone’s personal space by bumping or hitting them accidentally.
بالإضافه الى ما ذكرته فأنهم يعتذرون في حاله قيام احد ابنائهم او حيوناتهم بعمل عيب اجتماعي ما .
في الواقع ليس هذا في صلب التعرف على طرق وصيغ الاعتذار لكنها معلومه من الجيد التعرف عليها .
Other uses of “I am sorry “
ان كلمه انا اسف لا تعني بالضرورة العتذار فقط بل هي ايضا يصاحبها احيانا مشاعر الأسف او الاشفاق مثل “ I sorry to tell you that you have to re-type this report . Mr. Ali can not stand spell errors.”
هناك حاله اخرى يمكن ان نقول فيها”I’m sorry “ ولانعني فيها الإعتذار , فلو مررنا بجانب اثنين ثم عطسنا او تثائبنا او حتى سعلنا فإننا نقول اسف تأدبا او Pardon me
