The Arabian Oryx

The Arabian oryx comes from the Arabian peninsula . It has a white coat with black markings on the face , sides and legs and weighs about 100 kilos. It has almost straight horns, side by side .

By 1972 there were no Arabian oryx left in the wild . This was because they had been hunted for their meat and because of damage to their environment . However , a zoo had been established in Arizona, U.S.A. in 1962 . As a result , the species was saved, and today about 85 Arabian oryx have been
re-introduced into the wild .
