1- Islamic Foundation for Ecology & Environmental Sciences Presents:

IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE MUSLIM WORLD

with Professor Tariq Ramadan, Hajj Fazlun Khalid & Phil Thorton

Date: Friday 2nd December 2005
Time: 6.45 pm - 9.00 pm
Venue: London Muslim Centre, 46-80 Whitechapel Road, London, E1 1NX

Allah (swt) says in the Quran:

Fasad (corruption) has appeared on land and sea because of what the
hands of men have earned. That (Allah) may give them a taste of some
of their deeds, in order that they may turn back (to the right path).
(Surah ar-Rum, 30:41)

As the caliphs or representatives of Allah on earth it is our
responsibility to take care of other members of His Creation. Yet
how many of us are aware or concerned about the environment? How
many of us really take it seriously as a fundamental aspect of
our Deen? Or do we mock and belittle the environment as something
irrelevant that only the "Greenies" and "Lefties" are shouting
about?

Rising sea levels means up to 20% of Bangladesh could be lost
beneath the waves, flooding 15 million people out of their homes.
Where will they go? Higher temperatures will mean increased drought
and water shortages affecting billions of people, especially in the
Middle East and across Northern Africa. Who will take care of the
environmental refugees from Egypt, Mali, Chad and Sudan? Global
tensions and conflict over resources could become more common.
Just as there are currently wars over oil, future conflicts will
be about an even more vital resource - water. To build peace and
move forward as an Ummah we must understand climate change fast.

Do make a special effort to attend as it is a rare opportunity
to benefit from these pioneering speakers who have come together
to speak on a topic that will be of great importance to the Ummah
in the very near future. All welcome to participate. Please invite
non-Muslim friends and colleagues to attend as well.

2- NATIONAL CLIMATE MARCH

Date: Saturday 3rd December 2005
Meeting Time: 12.00 pm
Meeting Venue: Lincoln's Inn Fields, Holborn, London, WC2A

Climate Change is possibly the biggest threat to life on the planet,
but why are hardly any Muslims taking environmental issues seriously?
Apart from the usual regurgitation of mantras about how Islam has
the solution to all the world's problems and that the Qur'an teaches
us that we are the representatives of Allah (swt) on earth, there's
not much else we do.

"Disasters have spread throughout the land and sea, because of what
people have committed. (God) thus lets them taste the consequences
of some of their works so that they may return (to the right path)"
(Qur'an. 30:41)

These issues will affect us sooner rather than later, but it doesn't
help when we are engrossed in dredging the sea to build silly little
islands, which are then hired out to the very people we begrudge for
invading our lands? What an irony! Have we looked beyond the oil we
sell to fuel our desires for air conditioning systems and SUVs? Have
we ever reflected on why much of the meat we consume is probably not
halal, and that this is primarily because we want to be able to eat
fat greasy "halal" chicken every day, but at haramly low prices?

Whilst making changes in our own lives, we urge you to attend this
demonstration. Help create a global wave of protest to press for the
urgent action we need to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of
global climate. Rising sea levels means up to 20% of Bangladesh could
be lost beneath the waves, flooding 15 million people out of their
homes. Where will they go? Higher temperatures will mean increased
drought and water shortages affecting billions. Global tensions and
conflict over resources could become more common. It is clear that
to build peace, we must stop climate change, and fast.

Speakers include: Fazlun Khalid (Director, IFEES), George Monbiot,
Michael Meacher MP (Labour), Norman Baker MP (Lib Dem), Caroline
Lucas MEP (Green Party)

* The main March will assemble in Lincoln's Inn Fields near to
Holborn tube station and proceed towards the US Embassy.
* Join IFEES members at the march by meeting near the drinking
fountain in the the north west corner of Lincolns Inn Field's
under the Green 'Climate Interfaith Group' Banner.
* Helpers: please aim to be at the drinking fountain at 10.30 am.
That will allow time to prepare the placards without stress.

Let us make a bit of effort to attend this march and learn about
environmental concerns. Let's show that Muslims do really give a
damn about their responsibilities to Allah's other creations.

COMMUNITY PROTEST AGAINST ANTI-TERROR LEGISLATION

Date: Saturday 3rd December 2005
Time: 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm
Venue: St Stephen's Parade, Green Street, London, E7
(at the junction of Green Street and Plashet Road)

There will be a peaceful community protest against the proposed
anti-terror legislation. It will be a silent picket in the heart
of the Muslim community in East Ham.

It is amazing is that whilst MPs, civil liberties groups and now
the Lord's debate over the implications of these laws, the Muslim
community has been largely silent despite the fact that these laws
will without doubt have the greatest impact on the Muslim community.
This protest intends to high light the many injustices that will be
perpetrated against the Muslim community should it go through. From
arrest and internment without charge, banning the right to express
dissent against injustices occurring in the Muslim world and showing
solidarity to our Muslim brethren, to the closing down of masjids,
deportation of individuals, and the implications on our children,
plus studying the Quran and Seerah amongst other things. In short,
it is designed to silence the Muslim community

The protest aims at raising critical awareness amongst the Muslim
community regarding this issue. Media spokespersons will also be
available on the day.

* Nearest Tube: Upton Park (District / Hammersmith & City Lines)
* Bus Routes: 58, 104, 330, 376
