Hello, I want to tell you about a story i read during my university years.. Its called The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.
The story is about a lottery that is held every year so its kind of the village ritual. In the Fourth of July the whole town gathers in
the square and the event was conducted by a Mr Summers. A pile of stones that was gathered by the children was at the corner.
Children standing near the parents, 16 years old boys coming instead of their ill parent and waiting nervously. Mr Summer stood
and sets a black wooden box , opens it and stirrs the paper in it. He calls out the family names and one by one they would come
up and take a paper from the box . After all the men took a paper they were ask to open it all at once and the person with the black
dot is the choosen family. This year it was a Mr. Bill Hutchinson family. After that they summon the whole family member and make
another draw , even their little child Dave. Next the black dot was found in his wife, Tessie . So she has to stand in the middle and all the people take from the stones and start throwing it at her.
This is how the story ends but the really metaphor of the story is that not winning a lottery is always a good thing..
