Adverbs are the last major open word class that
we will deal with

We shall begin with features of adverbs
1- adj+ly
quick is the adjective
quickly is the adverb

2- Adverbs modify the verb (tell us more about it- describe it
He drove quickly
The adverb quickly told us more about who he drove

Adverbs may modify other adverbs
She spoke unusually quickly
Both unusually and quickly are adverbs

3- Most adv(erbs) end in -ly but there are some that do not take it
fast-hard- well

An important point:
NOT all words ENDING in - ly are ADVERBS
The following words are adj ending in -ly
costly, deadly, friendly, kindly, likely, lively, manly, and timely.
