Salam all,
Today my eldest had the last of his final exams I guess he was just as excited as I was that the exams are finally over. During last week we had allowed him to walk home since we live so much closer now. I think it's like a 20 minute walk. Anyway, he had discovered a small nursery on his route home. To my surprise today, he sort of celebrated the end of his term by purchasing around 14 pots of flowers and herbs, and carrying them all the way home. He proceeded to planting them immediately with his younger brother and the two of them were so happy with their accomplishment. The flower bed we have is soooooo poor and sad and almost soilless but they made it happen. Where there's a will there's a way!!

Salam all,
It's been quite a long time since I've written in here. Life hasn't been very smooth and it's taken me a while to hop back on the wagon. One nice thing that I did have was a visit to beautiful Makkah and Madinah. The feelings one gets there are beyond words. All praises to Allah for granting me that opportunity.
When I first started my studies in the US, all international students were required to attend a session to help them cope with their new surroundings. I remember very clearly how the speaker drew a graph to illustrate how most students go through what is known as a honeymoon stage, where everything is awesome and great. Then the feelings start to subside after a specific period of time. Then comes the crash, most commonly characterized by extreme homesickness, periods of slight depression, and feelings of simply not belonging. Yes, I think my entire family is going through that now. Eventually, this crash also comes to an end and I guess one adapts to the new surroundings. Anyway, it's nice to be back and hope some of you will write back here soon.
Later,

Salam,
Life is full of ups and downs, the trick is to try to relish your ups and embrace your downs in return
I guess what knocks me down is when i try really hard to conquer the downs, it drains me emotionally mentally and physically
I love how she illustrated the "cycle" , I hope you overcome it real soon
It's so magical visiting Mecca and madinah, when you finally come to "feel and live" the non materialistic side of life.. I hope I can visit them anytime soon..
