Materials:
4 ply WW yarn - 'H' OR 'I' crochet hook or
3 ply yarn, Sports Yarn, baby yarn - 'G' OR 'H' crochet hook
Directions:
--- CH 2 always counts as 1 DC. (or CH 3, which ever you usually like to use)
CH 4 or 5 (which ever you usually like to use to make a ring). SL ST in first ST to form a ring.
Round 1 - CH 2, 11 DC in ring. SL ST in top of CH 2. (12 DC)
Round 2 - CH 2, DC in the same ST. 2 DC in each ST around. SL ST in top of CH 2. (24 DC)
Round 3 - CH 2, *2 DC in next ST, DC in next ST*; Repeat around. SL ST in top of CH 2. (36 DC)
Round 4 - CH 2, DC in next ST. *2 DC in next ST, DC in next 2 ST*; Repeat around. SL ST in top of CH 2. (48 DC)
Round 5 - CH 2, DC in next 2 ST. *2 DC in next ST, DC in next 3 ST*; Repeat around. SL ST in top of CH 2. (60 DC)
If making child sized cap use fewer "2 DC in next ST" in this round or skip this round.
If making large adult cap repeat this round, or just add a few "2 DC" in another round of DC.
If making cap with 3 ply yarn for adult sized cap, add more rounds of increases.
Round 6 - *CH 2, skip 1 DC, SC in next DC*; Repeat around. SL ST in top of CH 2.
Round 7 - SL ST into CH, CH 2, DC in same CH 2 space, *2 DC in each CH 2 space around*. SL ST in top of CH 2.
Round 8 - CH 2, skip the first 2 DC, SC in space between 2ND & 3RD DC, *CH 2, skip 2 DC, SC in space between DC'S of previous round*; Repeat around. SL ST in top of CH 2.
Repeat rounds 7 & 8 until cap is the length that you want, ending with either round. Finish off.
Alternate ending round - CH 1 & either SC OR HDC around. SL ST in top of CH 1. Finish off.

Round 1 - CH 2, turn cap so that you are working from the inside of the cap. DC in back loop of next ST, working DC in BL (Back Loop) around. SL ST in top of CH 2.
--- (At this point you must have an even number of stitches.)
Round 2 - CH 3, Skip next ST, *DC in next ST, CH 1 & skip next ST*; Repeat around cap. SL ST in CH 2 of starting CH 3.
Round 3 - SL ST into opening, CH 3, skip next ST, *DC into next opening, CH 1 & skip next ST*; Repeat around. SL ST in CH 2 of starting CH 3.
--- For wider brim, repeat this round.
Round 4 - CH 1, Work either SC or HDC in each ST around. SL ST in top of CH 1. Finish off.

Round 1 - CH 2, DC in each ST around. SL ST in top of CH 2.
Round 2 - CH 3, skip next ST, *DC in next ST, CH 1 & skip next ST*; Repeat around cap. SL ST in CH 2 of starting CH 3.
ROUND 3 - SL ST into opening, CH 3, skip next ST, *DC into next opening, CH 1 & skip next ST*; Repeat around. SL ST in CH 2 of starting CH 3.

Materials:
crochet cotton, you know the dishcloth stuff ;~)
and a 4.0 mm hook, a F for you not in Canada
plastic canvas
old ball cap for brim pattern
To make the brim for this cap just trace the brim of a old ball cap onto plastic canvas, or if you can buy a ball cap brim go ahead and use that.
I always like to ch1 at the beginning of each row, don't count this as a stitch.
chain 4 and slst to form a loop, ch1
1. 6 sc in the loop, slst in the 1st sc, ch1.
2. 2 sc in each sc around, ch1.
3. *sc in sc, 2 sc in the next*, join with slst in the first sc, ch1.
4. *sc in 2sc, 2sc in the next*, join with slst in the first sc, ch1.
5. * sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in the next*, join with slst in the first sc, ch1.
6.* sc in 4 sc, 2 sc in the next*, join with slst in the first sc, ch1.
7.* sc in 5 sc, 2 sc in the next*, join with slst in the first sc, ch1.

finish off. now for the second brim you will work in the front loops only of row 35 of the ball cap, attaching the yarn directly under where the other brim started, work this brim in the same way, Now if you want your hat to look like a ducks bill you can just leave it open ( you'll see what I mean when you get this far ;~)) or, just sc the brim shut, streching the brims over the plastic canvas, it should be a little snug. Tuck in all ends and enjoy your cap.
