معظم الكلمات الادبية والاكاديمية في الانجليزية مشتقة من ROOTS- PREFIXES من اصول لاتينية واغريقية . العديد من المتحدثين بالانجليزية غير مدركين لهذه الحقيقة ومنها بعض ال WORD-PART التي سنذكرها الآن والتعرف عليها يعين على فهم المعنى وتعلم كلمات جديدة..
الجزء الاول:
Common well-established word parts
1- auto (prefix= self
an autonomous country = self-ruling
2-
bio- (prefix) = life, living things
biology
3-
cyber- (prefix) = relating to computers and robots
a cybercafe (cafe where customers can use computers with the internet
4-
-graph- \ -gram = writing
a monograph = a long article or short book on a subject that the writer has studied for a long time

phonetics= the study of human speech

criminology = the study of crime

pre- ( a prefix)= before
prepaid postage= paid for in advance مسبوق الدفع

retroactive law = taking effect from a date in the past

techno- (prefix) =relating to advanced machines
technophobia= fear of using technological machines such as computers

ما نقصده بهذه العبارة ان هناك كلمات متشابهة في ال form طريقة كتابتها وفي نفس الوقت هناك تقارب في معانيها. امثلة
The UN should intervene to stop the civil war = step in ; neutral in meaning
تتدخل - ولكن استعمالها يوحي بالحيادية ..
She shouldn't interfere in things that don't concern her = involve herself= negative and critical
يترجم هذا الفعل ايضا كيتدخل - لكن الفرق هو ان interfere توحي بالحشرية او اللقافة وتوحي بالنقد لمن يقوم بهذا السلوك

قلنا في الموضوع انو over- under لها 3 معاني .. والمطلوب في التمرين هو ان تحددن إذا ما كان ال prefix over في جملة معينة يعني excess - cover-cross وتكتبن ذلك فقط ..
