نبدا مع موضوع رقم 11: Direct speech
حين نكتب الكلمات الفعلية التي قالها شخص ما فأننا نكتبها بين " " وهذا ما نعنيه بل direct speech
هناك 3 طرق مختلفة لكتابة ال direct speech
1-
'' CL " , she\he said.
مثال:
" I like roller skating ," he said.
2- He said, " CL ."
مثال:
He said\asked , " Can I have my pocket-money now?"
3- " CL ," he said, " sl ."
مثال
" I think ," said Ann , '' we'll go for a walk after lunch."
Cl = capital letter
sl= small letter
عند كتابة محادثة وفي كل مرة يكون المتحدث شخصا آخر \ جديد فأننا نبدأ فقرة جديدة.
مثال
" I don't care !" said Michael. " Go without me if you want."
"Okay, we'll do that!" retroted Beth and slammed the door loudly behind her.
" I do wish you two would learn to get on , " observed mother who was washing the dishes.
Exercise 12
Rewrite the following sentences inserting speech marks and other necessary punctuation marks.
1- Do you like my new dress Sandra enquired excitedly
2- Please said the the school boy politely take my police
3- I'll have steak and chips please said Ann and an ice cream to follow.

بسم الله.. موضوعنا اليوم عن The semi-colon (;)
تستخدم الفاصلة المنقوطة للربط بين مجموعتين من الكلمات شديدي الارتباط ببعضهم البعض. يمكن لكل مجموعة من الكلمات ان تكون جملة مستقلة وذات معنى واضح بمفردها.
قد ترتبط الجملة الاولى بالجملة الثانية من خلال تزويدنا ب:
1- معلومات إضافية عن مجموعة الكلمات الاولى
2- نتيجة الجزء الاول
3- سبب الجزء الاول
She read the book; it was a romantic novel.
The baby was screaming loudly; her face was red.
مجموعة الكلمات الثانية تخبرنا بنتيجة بكاء الطفل.
استخدامات الفاصلة المنقوطة كما يلي:
1- للفصل بين clauses في الجمل المعطوفة بدلا من اداة ربط محذوفة او2- إذا ما كانت ال clauses تحتوي على فواصل.
He fell heavily onto the track; he had sprained his ankle.
لو كتبنا الجملة السابقة بهذه الطريقة ،فأن الجملة خاطئة
He fell heavily onto the track; because he had sprained his ankle.
3- للفصل بين اشياء في قائمة إذا ما كانت عبارات غالبا ما تكون محتوية على فواصل.
There was a herbaceous border full of phlox, delphinium, and potentilla; an alpine garden with saxifrage.
تستخدم الفاصلة المنقوطة للربط بين مجموعتين من الكلمات شديدي الارتباط ببعضهم البعض. يمكن لكل مجموعة من الكلمات ان تكون جملة مستقلة وذات معنى واضح بمفردها.

3-I shall take some of the library books back now but the others will have to wait.
4- The parcel was badly wrapped and some of the contents were showing.
إذا كانت القائمة بسيطة يحبذ استخدام الفاصلة للفصل بينهما.
